Hybrid sales represent 23% of the total sales, up from 20% versus the same period last year. Toyota Motor Europe (TME) sales results were driven mainly by the increase of sales in Western Europe (+9%) and Central Europe (+10%). Toyota and Lexus combined market share in Eastern Europe (Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Caucasus) increased by 0.1 % points year-on-year to 7.8% in a decreasing market (-35%).
Sales of Toyota and Lexus hybrid models reached 152,000 units during the same period, making up to almost one quarter of the total sales for the whole Europe, and one third of sales in Western Europe. The progression of hybrid sales for both brands for the first nine months of the year stands at 16% year-on-year, confirming the popularity of the alternative powertrain on the European market. Toyota and Lexus hybrid sales, which stood at 70,000 in 2010, will surpass 200,000 units this year.
Karl Schlicht, Executive Vice-President of TME, said: "From where we stand, we clearly see that European customers are more and more convinced by the benefits of hybrid, and with eight Toyota and eight Lexus hybrid models soon to be in our range, covering around 60% of the market segments, we are well placed to meet customer needs. We just achieved the milestone of 1 million hybrid vehicles sold in Europe and 8 million worldwide."

The Toyota Yaris Hybrid is extremely popular, with a 25% increase in sales versus the first nine months of 2014 to 53,000 units, with over one Yaris out of three sold in Europe being a hybrid.
Toyota Motor Manufacturing France (TMMF) just produced its 200,000th Yaris hybrid vehicle earlier this month. Yaris Hybrid production represents nearly 40% of the total Yaris production, up from the initial 25% in April 2012 when Toyota’s plant in the north of France began hybrid production of the Yaris. The launch in Europe of the first mass produced fuel cell vehicle powered by hydrogen, the Toyota Mirai, in Germany, UK and Denmark in 2015 followed by Belgium in H1 2016, is complementing our strategy towards future clean mobility, initiated 18 years ago with the launch of the Toyota Prius Hybrid.
The new AYGO keeps performing extremely well, with sales reaching 69,000 units for the first nine months of the year, representing a 33% increase versus last year. Sales of the Toyota Yaris increased by 12% to 152,600 units with the strong performance of the Yaris Hybrid, which registered its best sales month in September , reaching 53,000 units in the first 9 months of the year. The new Auris and Avensis that have just launched across Europe are showing a positive sales start, and will contribute to our annual sales in the remainder of the year.
